Meet The Team: Ted Kantor Managing Director of South NY / Connecticut

Ted Kantor Business Broker New York and Connecticut Where did you grow up?

I was born in New Haven, CT and grew up outside the city in Orange, CT.  

Where did you study for college?  

I went to Cornell University for both my undergraduate, BS in Hotel & Restaurant Management, and my MBA from the Johnson School of Management.

What was the first job you had out of college? What was the most important lesson you learned there that has stuck with you for your entire professional career?

My first job out of college was in hospitality industry in Hyatt’s Corporate Management Training program.  I worked at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta and rotated through all the different departments in the hotel including food & beverage, front desk, housekeeping, engineering and sales.  It was an incredible experience to see all the aspects of what it takes to make a business work.  My biggest learning was how important the total team is to being successful.  Sales could sell a large convention but if all departments weren’t functioning optimally, then the guest experience would fall apart.   Bringing a team approach, and valuing each member regardless of their position, has stuck with me throughout my career.

What drew you to working with A Neumann and Associates? 

After great conversations with several members of the team, I was impressed by the thoroughness of their transaction process.  The process creates value from start to finish by offering our clients the information they need to control the process and make their best decisions. The process also helps owners to avoid the easy short cuts that ultimately may slow down the process once buyers are involved.   As a former CEO and now advisor, I trust this approach, honed over 30 years, to offer our clients the maximum financial return for their business sale.

New York:  Westchester, Orange, Rockland, Dutchess, Putnam and Bronx

Connecticut:  Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, Tolland, New London, Windham

What do you feel makes your region unique compared to others? (tax benefits, special laws, etc.)?   

The region contains businesses of all sizes within many industry sectors. The region’s population is also highly cultural and economically diverse as well.

What do you find is the biggest challenge in your region compared to others?

Every region has its own share of challenges and opportunities.  I am excited about the opportunity to assist the business owners of my region.

What do you find is the biggest advantage working in your region compared to others?  

I have lived in the region for the majority of my life.  I been able to spent time in all corners of my region getting to experience what makes it such a wonderful part of the U.S.  I trust that these experiences can help me work with sellers and assist attracting the right buyers to the table.

What is the most rewarding experience you’ve had working in your region?

I enjoy meeting business owners and understanding their business history.  As a former business owner, I respect their passion and the sacrifices they have made to run a successful business.
