Meet the Team – Marc Gudowitz, Managing Director of The Long Island Region

By Achim Neumann

BUSINESSS-DEAL

  1. Marc, where did you grow up? I grew up in East Rockaway, NY initially and then moved to Hewlett, NY during my high school years but always considered myself a Lynbrook guy since I was part of the Lynbrook school district and attended Lynbrook High School.
  2. Where did you study for college? I attended SUNY Albany for my first two years of college and transferred to Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY when my father became ill to help in the family business and be there for my family. I worked in the company while attending college and graduated with a BBA in Marketing.
  3. What was the first job you had out of college? What was the most important lesson you learned there that has stuck with you for your entire professional career? My first job out of college was with Swank, Inc., a men’s accessory company. I started as a sales assistant and quickly moved up to key account manager for national accounts. I learned many things at Swank but maybe the most important was that hard work and being a true team player does pay off.
  4. What drew you to working with A Neumann and Associates? After doing extensive research and speaking with Achim and the ANA team, their organized, straight-forward and client first approach was one that I knew I wanted to be a part of.
  5. What counties and states do you represent?  I handle Nassau county, Suffolk county, Brooklyn and Queens in NY.
  6. What do you feel makes your region unique compared to others? (tax benefits, special laws, etc.)?   Long Island is unique because of its proximity to New York City. That is one of the things I love about Long Island.  This access to the greatest city in the world combined with great beaches, wineries and its diverse combination of suburban and urban living makes Long Island one of the best places in the world to live and build a business.
  7. What do you find is the biggest challenge in your region compared to others? I am not sure there is a larger challenge in my region compared to others.  Every company, every client and every deal have their own nuances regardless of the location.  Knowing this and being able to react to the specific needs of the client is what makes A Neumann and Associates uniquely qualified to deliver a successful outcome.
  8. What do you find is the biggest advantage working in your region compared to others?  Being born and bred on Long Island, I feel that knowing the area, the economics and the people is absolutely an advantage. Being a part of the community allows me to better understand the landscape and needs of each client.  Then when you include the incredible professionals at A. Neumann and Associates, LLC along with their vast network and expertise, we have the ideal team to service the Long Island area.
  9. What do you find is the biggest advantage working in your region compared to others?  See above.
  10. What do you think is the most underrated opportunity in your region?  Having a professional, independent valuation from a certified firm is one of the most underrated aspects of our business. Most people only consider getting a valuation when they are looking to sell, however, a valuation can be a useful tool when planning your exit strategy even if it is many years out.  They can also help in assessing your company’s performance, optimizing debt or in estate planning.  A Neumann and Associates will help you prepare for your independent valuation and then will thoroughly review the results with you when completed.
  11. What is the most rewarding experience you’ve had working in your region? Being able to help business owners form and execute their exit strategies is extremely rewarding. I don’t think I can pick one over the others.
  12. Best advice for someone considering selling a business in your region Do your research and make sure you pick the right team to guide you through the process which will be one of the most important transactions of your life. As tempting as it may be to attempt to sell on your own, seek professional guidance.  There are so many aspects of the process that that need to be properly managed.  Having the right team in your corner will pay for itself many times over.  I am proud to say that A Neuman and Associates is that team.
  13. Best advice for someone considering buying a business in your region. When buying a business, you will want to work with an organization that has the network and focus to bring you the opportunities that are right for you. A Neumann and Associates is structured to do just that.

Client Testimonials

“I'm an attorney. I have represented the buyers and sellers of businesses for 20+ years. Recently I had the pleasure of handling a transaction where Richard Wilder of A. Neumann & Associates was the broker for the seller. Mr. Wilder was of great service to his client. He is very knowledgeable and organized. Thanks to his guidance the transaction proceeded smoothly and closed on time. He is highly recommended.”

Nick Ferrante

“Richard, you came to my office a few years ago and were wonderful in explaining your process and procedures. Our company is probably an anomaly in that we sold the majority to two long time employees and I financed them both. Our company is entering its 45th year and is still thriving. The purpose of the note is to thank you very much for the service that you provide. Thank you again.”

John Foug, Seller

“We had a great experience working with Richard Wilder from Neumann and Associates as the sell-side broker for Blade Runners. He was knowledgeable, professional, and clearly had his client’s best interests at heart. Richard helped keep the process smooth for everyone, and thanks in part to his efforts, we found a fantastic owner to partner with. We'd gladly work with Richard and the Neumann and Associates team again.”

Justin Martin

“Very happy with Richard and the entire process. I was on the buyer side of the transaction.”

Isaac Palmer, Jr.

“If you are looking for a professional and informative company that meets your needs, A Neumann & Associates is the company to go with. Ted Kantor went above and beyond to make our experience as easy as possible. Ted was helpful from the start of our process to the end. He was there every step of the way to guide us and answer all of our questions. He handled all of the in-depth communication and followed up on every detail. We strongly recommend Ted Kantor to help you whether you're buying or selling. It was a great experience. We never imagined it would go as smooth as it did. The Laluna's (Andy, Maria & Tony Jr)”

Maria Laluna

“A Pleasure to work with - I highly recommend them! Working with Richard Wilder was a pleasure, and he found us the perfect match.”

Laura Keith-Macario

“This spring we acquired a business that was represented by Richard Wilder at A Neumann & Associates. Small business acquisitions can be very emotional for the sellers and life-changing for the buyers, and Richard was keenly aware of this throughout the process. Although he was working for the sellers and not for us, he knew that most business owners see their business as their baby so the only way to have a happy outcome for his clients was to also have a happy outcome for the buyers. Knowing how nerve-wracking this process can be (think home buying x 10), he never dropped the ball on keeping everyone updated, anticipating potential snags, and guiding us along in the process. We highly recommend Richard.”

Shannon, Buyer

“My business was my baby for over 40 years. It is a tough and cruel world out there when it comes to selling your business. Neuman and Associates provided the professional guidance/protection to get the job done with care and no pressure. In my view a tremendous value. I would recommend them to anyone seeking to sell their business. Eric Storck, president of Blade Runners Inc.”

Eric Storck, President - Blade Runners Inc.

“I’m really impressed with how your firm operates. The focus on confidentiality, the thorough vetting process, and the use of third-party accredited valuations really stand out. It’s easy to see why you’ve built such a strong reputation over the years.”

Ann M., Investor

“Thanks for sending over such a detailed CIM.  While I have only reviewed a have dozen CIMs at this point, your company has put together the most comprehensive data and detailed presentation I have seen so far.”
